Accessory Trend Watch: Fall Sock Trend

In the 90’s I was a huge Clueless fan just as many young girls. I loved Cher and Dion’s sweater looks with the plaid skirts, knee high socks, and mary janes. I remember dressing up for school in variations of those looks. Well fast forward 2010 and the look is back in a revamped, new and improved form of course. All over the fall 2010 runway designers paired variations of trouser socks with skirts, dresses, shorts and pants looks. I really love this look and there are so many ways to wear it. You can go for the thigh high socks or keep it minimal with the midcalf socks. You can wear them with pumps, boots or sandals. This is a trend that I must incorporate into my fall wardrobe.

The Style Lookout: Solange

I must say I have become a Solange fan. I really hate that she sometimes gets left in the shadow of her sister Beyonce. Although she has a style that is completely her own many people still make the comparison. I have to admit I love her style. I admire her looks so much because she has “real style”, she is not trendy. Even as an artist she has a style that is solely her own. Her creativity is undeniable. She is always fashion forward and her style is unpredictable. She is someone that is not afraid to take risks. Initially I wasn’t big fan of her cutting her hair. Now I think it may have been one of the best things that she could have done for her over all style. She has really been rocking it to say the least. Her hair is a great compliment to her style. She is making that afro look FIERCE! Musically she seems to be inspired by the old school and that is reflected in her retro inspired ensembles. Her sound is somewhat reminiscent of a 1970's Diana Ross. She is a big fan of pairing bold prints with bright colors. She has a retro yet afrocentric sense of style that really works for her. Trend Watch: Maxi Skirts

The maxi skirt is a must have fall trend. I love maxi dresses for the spring and summer months, it is an effortless way of being casually chic. Imagine my excitement when I saw that designers had incorporated one of my favorite spring/summer looks into a skirt for the fall season. The maxi skirt is reminiscent of but not to be confused with the peasant skirt that was popular a few years ago. The maxi skirt is extremely versatile look for fall. It can be stylishly paired with practically any shirt, blouse, cardigan or blazer. This look is flattering for all body types. If you are not comfortable with your lower body is a great way to camouflage the unflattering areas and accentuate other features. The maxi skirt is a simple yet chic look that can look Fab on any fashionista.

Trend Watch: Pointed Toe Pumps

Pointed toe pumps are one of my favorite fall trends. Although, I don’t consider pointed toe pumps to be a trend considering they have a fashion history that dates back to medieval times. Historically pointy toe shoes were called winklepickers a term that derived in the 1950’s from a pointed tool that was used to take winkles a popular British seaside snack from their shells. The winkle pickers were popular among young British rock and roll fans. In that late 1950’s and early 1960’s winklepickers with a stiletto heel became the rage. The pointy toe did fall from fashion glory for a few seasons and I am excited for its return on the shoe throne.

I love a good round toe shoe also but I prefer a pointed toe heel with slacks and jeans. The pointed toe heel helps to make the legs look longer and leaner where the round toe heel cuts off the line of the leg and makes the legs appear stumpy in pants. The pointed toe allows you to give the illusion of a more proportional silhouette. I am eager to update my pointed toe shoe collection for fall. Collections such as Louis Vuitton, Stella McCartney and Prada all showcased pointed toe pumps in their fall RTW 2010 collections.

It's officially fall and I am uber excited about the change of season and eager to make the wardrobe changes. Unfortunately in Florida the temperature outside still feels like the middle of summer. I am still trying to find ways to incorporate Fall into my wardrobe without running the risk of overheating. Accessories are the easiest way to help transition your wardrobe into fall if you live in a city with a warmer climate. The box handbag appeared on the runway of several designers during the Fall 2010 RTW collections. Designers such as Christian Dior, Celine, and Proenza Schouler all showcased a version of this bag.

It is a simple and very chic way of incorporating spring trends into your wardrobe.

Claudia Schiffer photographed in black face

Two years ago Claudia Schiffer was photographed by Karl Lagerfield in black face and an afro. These photos have recently resurfaced and with much controversy. Stern Fotographie, a German magazine plays homage to Karl Lagerfield and his exceptional photography for their 60th anniversary cover. They used six images of Schiffer styled with a different theme. One of the six covers used depicted Schiffer in black face.

The question that has been posed are the photographs purely artistic expression or are they bordering racism. I think that it is a controversy that has left many people who are not African American quite simply wondering “what is the big deal?”. This question can be answered in the following quote from Shevelle Rhule, fashion editor at black lifestyle magazine Pride,

“The images of Miss Schiffer were tasteless. It shows poor taste and it's offensive. There are not enough women of colour featured in mainstream magazines. This just suggests you can counteract the problem by using white models. I don't believe they deliberately set out to offend, they obviously see it as being arty and feel that they are pushing boundaries. But clearly no thought has been given to the history behind what they have done and the comparisons it draws with minstrel shows.”

Trend Watch: The Cut-Out Dress

The cut-out dress appeared in the collections of several designers for the spring 2010 runway shows. Gucci, Preen, and Alexander Wang just to name a few all sent their own style of the cut out dress down the runway. The cutout dress is definitely a sexy spring and summer dress for nightlife. The cutout dress comes in several styles some of which are more sexy than others. If you are going for the overtly sexy version of this dress you must be in shape because this look does hug the body and have cutouts in unforgiving spots. Don’t fret if you have missed a few trips to the gym and you still like this look there are cut out dresses that have cutouts on the neckline and sleeves.

Nobody rocks the cutout dress like Ciara. Although this look is a little too scantily clad for my taste. Cici definitely has been in the gym and has the body to pull off this look which is probably why the cutout dress seems to be Ciara's favorite look.

Accessory Trend Watch: Over-sized Bow Headbands

Headbands have been a reoccurring trend in fashion for the past few seasons. Last year the bunny ears were the rage in the world of fashion, the over-sized bow headband is an extension of that look. I am a fan of this look editorially and on the runway. Diane Von Furstenberg accessorized all of her looks for her resort 2010 collection with bright, over sized, luxurious bow headbands. As did Marc Jacobs for his Marc by Marc Jacobs spring 2010 collection.

I am doing another style profile on Kerry Washington. To say the least I am a fan of her style. She is the epitome of fashion fabulousness. Her style choices rarely if ever disappoint. She embodies what I like to call a complete look. The hair, accessories, and ensemble always come together flawlessly. She is one of my all time favorite fashionistas for this reason I will continually profile her because in my opinion her impeccable style sometimes goes unnoticed in the mainstream fashion world. Here are a few of my favorite Kerry looks.

Kerry is currently gracing the cover of this weeks Jet magazine looking FAB as usual promoting her new film Mother and Child.

The Style Lookout: Sex And The City 2 Premiere

Last night was the NYC premiere of the much anticipated Sex And the City 2. On twitter last night June Ambrose tweeted the entire event in detail. As I followed her tweets it sent me into wishful thinking. I tweeted how I wished I was at the premiere with the “who is who” of fashion. I, just as every fashionista, was eager to see the fashions. All the eagerness and anticipation left me a tad bit disappointed when I saw the looks. I will let you Fashion Devotee’s be the judge.

Sarah Jessica Parker was my favorite look in a yellow one shoulder Valentino gown. It was not what I expected from her but I must say I am drawn to the color of her dress. I think the overall style and fit of her gown was flattering to her petite frame. I was not in love with her shoes and the dress together. I would have like to have seen a more springy shoe with her dress.

Kim Cattrall stayed true to her character Samantha in a gold, form fitting, Naeem Khan dress.

Kristen Davis also embraced color in a pink chiffon Jean Desses for Decades gown.

Cynthia Nixon opted for a look inspired by old Hollywood glamor in a black strapless Carolina Herrera gown.

The Style Lookout: Leighton Meester vs. Blake Lively

Leighton Meester is famous for her role as the classic yet chic Blair Waldorf, on CW’s sitcom Gossip Girl. I admire Leighton’s style on and off the set. She is constantly on Vogue’s and InStyle’s best dressed list. Leighton is often seen in a flirty dress and stylish ankle boots. Meester has an incredible eye for contrasting colors. I think the best thing about her style is her ability to mix prints and colors.

Blake Lively is Meesters costar on the sitcom Gossip Girl appearing as Serene Van Der Woodsen. Blake has a glamorous, sexy chic style. She prefers form fitting pieces that accentuate her tall slender frame.

I am impartial to Leighton’s style on and off the set; I love her play on colors. I think Lively is still developing her style. What do you Fashion Devotee’s think Leighton Meester or Blake Lively?

The Style Lookout: Kim Kardashian vs. Beyonce

Kim Kardashian and Beyonce were both spotted recently in two very similar looks. Both ladies were wearing the 3.1 Philip Lim studded gloves, black leggings and a black top, a blazer, and black pumps. Each lady brought their own style to the look. Kim kept her look basic by pairing her black silhouette with a white blazer; she allowed her gloves to be the standout accessory in her look. Beyonce put a more eccentric twist on her look she paired her black silhouette with a blue Chanel tweed/leather jacket and blue Balenciaga handbag. I find Beyonce's look to be too much the blue tweed/leather jacket, the blue Balenciaga bag, the studded gloves and studded leggings are distracting. I prefer Kim's version of the look because I like that all the focus is on her gloves. Who do you Fashion Devotee's think wore it best Kim Kardashian or Beyonce?

Fashions infatuation with the sea dates back to the 1800’s. In 1846, on a family trip aboard the Royal Yacht, Queen Victoria dressed her son Albert in a sailor suit. Soon after, the nautical look became popular for swimmers and children. From then on the nautical look has been a recurrent theme in fashion history. During the “Golden Age of Hollywood” the “naughty nautical” look was portrayed in countless celebrity publicity photos. The look soon hit the catwalks and served as inspiration for designers such as Chanel, Vivienne Westwood and Ralph Lauren. “Nautical Chic” is no new trend. Project Runways Season 7 Local Contestants

For all of my local Fashion Devotee's season 7 of Project Runway has two Florida contestants. Ben Chmura resides in Tampa, FL and Jessie LeNoir in Orlando, FL.

Ben Chmura has a BFA from Savannah College of Art and Design in Fashion Design. Over the course of his career Chmura has freelanced for several major brands including Ralph Lauren and Club Monaco. He was also voted the "Tampa's Best Local Designer" in 2007 by Creative Loafing.

Jessie LeNoir is a self taught designer with a background in tailoring. LeNoir learned to sew in college while studying acting. He believes in making garments that are “well fitted and beautifully constructed.”

The Style Lookout: Ugly Betty's New Makeover

Ugly Betty has shed her ugly duckling look this for a more chic image on this season of Ugly Betty. Reportedly the change is a trial to see how the audience will react to Betty’s new image. Betty has gotten a complete makeover her eyebrows are arched, braces removed, and her fashions are somewhat chic. So what do the Ugly Betty fans think of Betty’s new image? I like Betty’s new look but I’m not sure if the new image somewhat defeats the theme of the show being that beauty is in the inside and that one should be able to achieve on the basis of hard work not looks. I also see that the Betty’s style metamorphosis was inevitable considering that she works in an industry where image is everything. What better time for this metamorphosis than Betty’s promotion to associate features editor at Mode. Chic Betty could be here to stay.

I am in love with the concept of the statement necklace. I usually do not wear many necklaces, I prefer the statement earrings. My ears are usually always accessorized with a pair of “dangling” earrings. Lately I have been trying more necklaces and I am infatuated with the different statement necklaces. A statement necklace can make the simplest of ensembles look chic and sophisticated. Turtlenecks are always “IN” for the fall and winter seasons but this year designers sent their turtlenecks down the runway accessorized with big bold statement necklaces that gave us a new take on turtlenecks. Less is definitely not more this season in terms of accessories. Statement jewelry hit the runways in full blast for the spring 2009 shows and it continued for the fall 2009/winter 2010 seasons. Alexander McQueen, Chanel, Zac Posen, and Thakoon just to name a few all sent fashions adorned in statement jewelry down the runway for the fall 2009/winter 2010. When it comes to statement jewelry the gaudier the better. I must say I love this trend and I think it can be fun to experiment with. Just don’t wear all the statement pieces at one time. Beauty Trend Watch: Minx Nails

Last year when Beyoncé appeared on Oprah to promote her I AM album I became instantly infatuated with her nails. I developed an instant lust for her nail polish. It was at that moment my quest began. I began researching all the major brands for this color. I began with Chanel, YSL and from there my quest trickled down to drugstores brands. To my dismay the color was no where to be found. After a few days of research finally I realized why I had been unsuccessful it wasn’t nail polish that adorned Bey’s nails but it was a product called Minx. Minx is a product far more creative than nail polish. It is a nail art. Any design imaginable can be created through the use of Minx from polka dots, plaids, zebra prints, vibrant metallic’s to a picture of President Obama‘s face. Minx are film and nail coatings applied by heat. This nail service has become more than a trend but more of a nail phenomenon. The price of Minx is a bit more steep than the price of your average manicure. On the bright side it is supposed to last two weeks for a manicure and four weeks for a pedicure. When I first began my quest last year there was no one in my area that applied Minx but now I have found a Minx specialist. Many of my male friends have been requesting a post on men’s fashion. They have been wanting to step out and try new looks but are not aware of the current trends in men’s fashions. Some men feel that it is a reflection on their sexuality if they know too much or express to much interest in fashion. I personally admire men that take interest in their appearance and are aware of what is current in fashion. There is a certain sex appeal that goes along with a man that is manly and chic. Deep V-Neck Cardigans: This trend was popular in the spring and it has carried over to the fall. Cardigans are the perfect fashion tool for layering. Fashion Meets Nightlife: Bebe Holiday Fashion Show

This weekend I attended the Bebe Holiday Fashion Show. Another night of fashion meeting nightlife. The event was at Jackson’s Bistro, a nice venue that is located in downtown Tampa on Harbour Island, that over looks the bay of Tampa. The crowd was quite diverse and filled with women of all ages in various Bebe Fashions. There was an open bar from 10pm-11pm where Bebe had a signature drink of the night their very own Bebe Martini. Also the first two hundred ladies received a $25 gift card. The show itself was fab as well. The only downside was the clothing that Bebe showcased were garments that are currently in stores. If you frequent Bebe often then you would have previously seen all of the garments. I think that the show should have consisted of pieces that have not yet been released in stores. On the bright side the styling was great. Although the pieces are currently in stores they were styled well, pieces were mixed and matched to give them a fresh look. It also gave Bebe the ability to showcase their complete look: ensembles adorned with Bebe headpieces, jewelry, clutches, and shoes. Overall I enjoyed myself, it was a night of partying and fashion. Beauty Trend Watch: Black Lipstick

Black has always been a style staple in the fashion industry . Recently fashion has taken a very dark turn towards more Goth like trends. Fashion and beauty trends are inevitably intertwined so this recent infatuation with darkness has trickled down to the beauty industry. When Chanel released it’s limited edition Black Satin nail polish in 2006, black nail polish became a must have. Matte black eyeshadow with a winged design has become a popular trend. Last year YSL introduced the black lipstick trend when their models hit the catwalk with bold black lips. YSL cosmetics released YSL Beauté Pur Black the same gloss used on the runways. This season black lipstick is everywhere released in some form by premier cosmetic lines and the drugstore brands. It is a trend that I am anxious to try. Would you ever where black lipstick?

The Style Lookout: Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga known for her outlandish ensembles, over the top videos and performances is putting her stamp all over the fashion and entertainment industry. It seems that everyone has an opinion about Gaga and her style. Rather you love her or hate her you have an opinion and I believe that is Lady Gaga’s goal. She sometimes lives by the motto that less is more in terms of clothing and more is not enough in terms of accessories. Gaga is often photographed out and about in leotards in every color, style, and fabric imaginable accessorized with flamboyant hairstyles, hats, and shoes. Traces of Lady Gaga can been seen everywhere especially in the sudden comeback of bodysuits. Recently Lady Gaga collaborated with Beyoncé for the highly anticipated “Video Phone” remix video. Lady Gaga’s influence was quite apparent in Beyoncé’s wardrobe choices for the video. Beyoncé wore several Gaga inspired leotards and two piece dance costumes throughout the video. Fashion Meets Nightlife

This weekend was extremely fun filled for me I attended two fashion shows. The one I attended on Friday I actually worked backstage as a wardrober. I love the adrenaline rush I receive from the chaos and frenzy that occurs backstage at fashion shows. The show on Friday entitled “Runway Fevah” was put on by a Tampa based “exclusive fashion event production and marketing company” The Fashion Movement. The mission of The Fashion Movement is to provide a forum that promotes and markets the talents of those in the fashion industry. “Runway Fevah” was held at the Good Luck Café entertainment complex located in the historical Ybor City. I absolutely loved the venue it was very chic and a great location to house a fashion show. The show showcased several designers with distinct styles: Amanda Roll, April Jean, Dillon Avenue, Egotistical Clothing, Jason Herdigein, Mystic Creationz, Sheree Lorraine. The show on Saturday I attended was truly an art show. It showcased art in all of it’s forms there was an art gallery that showcased artwork, live music and dancers, and several designers showcased their designs on the runway. The show was put on by Square One Florida at the Ritz Ybor. I have worked backstage before at a Square One show but this time I was able to sit back and enjoy the show. Square One was created to bring more exposure to the Tampa Bay arts. For all of my New Yorkers, Square One will be expanding to Square One New York so be on the lookout for their shows.

Tim Gunn Lecture

I am a big fan of Project Runway so naturally I was uber excited when I heard that Tim Gunn was going to lecture at my alma mater University of South Florida for the University Lecture Series. Tim was just as amusing in person as he is on Project Runway. His lecture was witty, and humorous. Gunn did not mince words or hold back on his honest opinions. One student asked Tim his opinion on the numerous celebrities that have turned fashion “designer.” More specifically his thoughts on Lindsey Lohan as a designer. Tim responded that he didn’t believe that Lohan had attended fashion school and if she had, she didn’t make it a semester past freshmen year. The student went on to ask Gunn about his opinion about Lohan being appointed creative director of Ungaro. Gunn replied “ either it is a sick publicity stunt or the board of directors is on crack.” Gunn listed: Coco Chanel, Diane Von Furstenberg, and Donna Karen as his favorite designers past and present. He went on to state that he admires Michael Kors for his leadership and his “unique ability to advise and critique other designers.” Gunn named the present 2009 as his favorite fashion period, he stated “ I wouldn’t want to go back because fashion has never been more diverse”. He spoke briefly on fashion in the midst of a recession, he stated “ I wouldn’t care if I never saw $26,000 handbag in my life.”

Gunn, most known for his mentoring role on Lifetime’s Project Runway: also serves as the Chief Creative Officer of Liz Claiborne and the Chair of Parsons School of Designs Fashion Department. He graduated with a BFA in Sculpture from Corcoran College of Art and Design. In 1982 he left to join Parsons, by 1989 he was appointed to associate dean and in 2000 he was appointed Chair of the Fashion Design Department. When appointed to chair Gunn was given the challenge of revamping the fashion design curriculum for the 21st century. Gunn has made a tremendous impact on the curriculum at Parsons. Before Gunn was appointed the fashion curriculum at Parsons had not been changed since 1952. With Gunn’s direction the curriculum introduced the students to fashion history, critical thinking, and the business elements of the fashion industry. Gunn is also the coauthor of a book Tim Gunn: A Guide to Quality, Taste, and Style.

As a fashion magazine junky it always interesting to see what the people behind the pages of the magazines look like. Kate Lanphear and Carine Roitfeld are both coveted for their sense of style. Although the have very different senses of style they have a few things in common black is there uniform, they keep it simple yet chic, and they love the mix of masculine and feminine pieces.

Kate Lanphear is the Style Director of U.S. Elle magazine and widely recognized for her street style. She is often captured on the streets of New York looking boyishly chic. Her platinum hair draws as much attention as her style. I must say I like her style. Her look always appears effortless. Her infatuation with gray cashmere, black, and studs never seems to bore me. She takes the simplest of pieces and pairs them with just the right thing. Kate says of her style "My style is really Pot Luck, whatever has just come back from the dry-cleaner."

Carine Roitfeld is the Editor-in-Chief of French Vogue and a style icon. She has been on the best dressed list of countless magazines and a deemed a fashion muse by Womens Wear Daily magazine. Carine in her 50's dresses with a sense of fashion freedom that most women her age lack. She doesn't look perfect her hair is untamed, her brows are thick and her style is simple and always chic.

Runway Report: Project Runway Season 5 Finale

The long awaited season finale of Project Runway has come and gone. After viewing the final collections live I was extremely torn between Korto and Leanne. I quickly eliminated Kenley because I felt her collection lacked cohesion. I think Leanne's collection was amazing but it did become a bit repetitive continually seeing the same look come down the runway. Korto, I absolutely love her personality and design skill. I disagreed with the judges I didn't feel that any of her pieces were over designed. I think her collection had the most wearable pieces it was truly "ready to wear." There was cohesion but every piece didn't look the same. After seeing the collections live I think Korto should have won. I can see why the judges chose Leanne because she does make technical designs look effortless. Congrats to Leanne. I am already waiting for season 6!

Runway Report: Kevan Hall's Spring 2009 RTW Collection

Fashion Designer Kevan Hall debuted his spring collection at the beginning of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week LA edition. Hall played homage to costume designer Adrian Gilbert with his 1940's inspired gowns. Old Hollywood glamour and style was an apparent inspiration for Hall's collection. Hall definitely wowed the audience he received applause and cheers throughout the show. I cant wait to see which celebrities will be wearing Hall's gown on the red carpet. Forbes Most Powerful U.S. Fashion Magazine Editors

Forbes.com ranked the top ten most influential and powerful fashion editors at U.S. magazines. To compose the list the site did some number crunching based on ad sales, circulation, and online readership. Forbes included all U.S. based magazines that produce a significant amount of fashion editorial pages. According to the Audit Bureau of Circulations the magazine industry has suffered a 8% decrease in the sales of a single copy from 47.3 million in the first half of 2007 to to 43.5 million for the first half of 2008. As digital publishing continues to rise in popularity it is important for magazines to focus on their online editorials as much as their print publication. 1. The number one spot goes to Cindi Leive Editor-in-Chief of Glamour magazine. Under Leive's command the magazine has a circulation of 2.4 million, a 4.1% increase from last year, with equal success online Glamour.com saw a 118% increase in online traffic.

2.Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour and Elle Editor-in-Chief Roberta (Robbie) Myers tied for the number two spot. Wintour is unarguably the most noted fashion editor on this list she is famous for launching the careers of designers. The decision of Robbie Myers to sponsor Bravo TVs Project Runway has given Elle more exposure and readers on and offline. Since it's sponsorship Elle has seen an increase in advertisements and circulation.

4. Kate White the Editor-in-Chief of Cosmopolitan magazine produces about 20 pages monthly of fashion editorial and tips on the seasons hottest trends. Cosmo's website is ranked the highest of any magazine on Forbes list.

5. Charla Lawhon the leading editorial force behind In Style magazine has been apart of the In Style team since it's launch in 1993. In Style best known for it's celebrity fashion has seen 2.64% rise in circulation since last year.

6. Linda Wells founding editor of Allure magazine a beauty publication made the list because it produces about 12 monthly pages of fashion editorial. Wells is known for making what some may feel a "silly subject serious journalism".

7. Glenda Bailey Editor-in-Chief at Harper's Bazaar has seen an increase in revenue but the circulation numbers still fall short in comparison to other publications. Bailey has quite the impressive resume, she launched British Marie Claire and later became the editor of the American version before leaving for Bazaar.

8. Amy Astley has been the editor of Teen Vogue since it's beginning in 2003. Astley worked for Vogue for 10 years before launching the teenage version. Teen Vogue has been able to continually rise in popularity because it can appeal to a crowd that has passed "teenager" status.

9. Anne Shoket left CosmoGIRL for Seventeen in 2007. Under her lead Seventeen became the # 1 selling teenage magazine on newsstands in 2007.

10. Joanna Coles Editor-in-Chief of Marie Claire has taken the publication through alot of changes the most recent was the hiring of former Elle Editor-at-Large Nina Garcia. Marie Claire will be sponsoring season 6 of Project Runway.

The city of Chicago is trying to make it's fashion mark with its annual Fashion Focus weeks. The 2008 week included over thirty events for designers and retailers including runway shows. Beauty Bargains

As much as I love shopping, I love a good bargain. When I find a good bargain I like to share it with others. Here are a few great beauty buys I found.

I am a beauty addict and more specifically a MAC addict. I have been in a committed relationship with MAC for the past five years. I have this infatuation with the highly pigmented eye shadows. Of course when L’Oreal Hip became the rage I was not interested because of my commitment to MAC. I must say all the talk did get me a bit curious if all the hype behind L’Oreal Hip was true. Last week Walgreen's was offering a promotion on L’Oreal Hip, buy one get one free. Needless to say I couldn't’t pass up that bargain so I bought Gilded 806 and Platinum 906 both for under $10. I am impressed with the high intensity of the pigments. The colors showed up beautifully against my skin which is always a fear when you have brown skin. I am still addicted to MAC but now I am a little more open to trying other brands.

My friend Brittany over at Clumpsofmascara always gives me a hard time about my brushes. I am fully aware of the importance of a good brush. I think the quality of the brush is as important as the quality of the makeup. I just couldn't’t see paying $30 plus dollars for one brush. I tried Sonia Kashuk's brushes exclusively sold at Target and I was quite impressed. The brushes are high in quality and low in price. Here a few must haves for your cosmetic collection.

Trend Watch: Womenswear as Menswear

Menswear inspired ensembles for women have been a trend in the fashion industry for decades. Women have incorporated slouchy trousers, suspenders, ties, and suit coats into their everyday wardrobes. The new age man has abandoned overly masculine fashions and opted for a more feminine style. Men are now incorporating popular female fashion trends into their daily wardrobes.

Man bags vs. Murses

Most people use the terms “man bag” and “murse” interchangeably. I however see a difference in a “man bag” and a “murse.” A “man bag” by my definition is any bag that a man carries for the purpose of being fashionable or stylish. Examples are premier label backpacks, leather backpacks, messenger bags, and leather satchel style briefcases. I am intrigued by a man that carries a "man bag". A “murse” on the other hand is a male purse. Examples are male evening clutches, handbags, and shoulder bags. I am all for a man that is stylish and up to date with current trends but a man that is carrying an evening clutch to dinner serves as a problem for me. Let me know your thoughts on the “man bag” vs. the “murse”. Is there a difference or are they one in the same? Is it fashionable or taking it too far?

Scarves on men is not a new trend, it is however among younger males. This trend is one that I love. It can have an urban edge or a more sophisticated feel.

Skinny jeans

Male skinny jeans and pants are quite popular. I must say I am not a fan of this trend. I think a man’s jeans should be fitted and not sagging to the floor, I also think there is a fine line between fitted and skin tight. Skin tight being the male skinny jeans. Let me know your thoughts.

Runway Report: Who will win Project Runway Season 5?

I am big Project Runway fan every Wednesday night at 9 p.m. I faithfully tune into the Bravo network to see what challenge is next. This season for the first time I decided to view the final collections before the show airs. I never do this because as a fan I enjoy the excitement and thrill of seeing them on the season finale. I must say that this season contestants didn’t really wow me. But there were a few that stood out from the pack to me.

Jerell
You have to love Jerell’s personality. I enjoy him on the show he makes me laugh with his sarcasm. His designs are sometimes to gaudy for my taste but when he mellows things down, he shows what a good designer he is capable of being. His collection reflects his personality on the show, a dash of punk rock mixed with a pinch of glitz and glam. Here are my two favorite pieces.

Kenley
My problem with Kenley is her attitude. She is very disrespectful to Tim Gunn and the judges. An important part of being successful in any industry is being able to take positive and negative feedback. The criticism against Kenley is that she only has one trick which is the 50’s style dress. I think that she stays true to her style, she understands her strengths and she makes them work for her. I could definitely see Kenley giving Betsey Johnson a run for her money one day. Korto
Korto is by far one of the best designers on the show and coincidentally one of the few that never boasts about her talent. She comes across as truly humble which adds to the excitement when she wins a challenge. I love how she always finds a way to incorporate her African roots into her designs. Leanne
Leanne has a quiet personality she never makes a lot of noise. At least as far as sound is concerned. When it comes to her designs she is quite noisy. She pays intricate attention to detail. Her pieces are works of art. I couldn't’t narrow it down to just two pieces so here a few of my favorites from her collection.

Runway Report: The beginning of Paris Fashion Week's Spring 2009 RTW Collections

Paris fashion week started off with over the top collections. The designers took an artistic approach to fashion using abstract and geometric silhouettes. Black and white seemed to be a consistent color palette for several of the collections.

Dice Kayek offered several abstract styled pieces. Many of the dresses had tulip style skirts. The models had very sleek pulled back ponytails and dark panda eyes.

Bruno Pieters showed several geometrically shaped pieces that didn't form the most feminine of silhouettes. The models wore very thick brows.

Anne Valérie Hash's collection mixed many styles; sheer and opaque fabrics with Grecian drapery and rouching.

Nina Ricci's collection had a romantic feel, with several sheer train style dresses.

A.F. Vandervost offered a lingerie inspired collection with lace and satin dresses. To exaggerate the theme the models wore pouty red lips.

Balmain's theme was embellishments and lots of it. The entire collection featured and embellished piece of some form. There were sequins, rhinestones, and studs on shoes, belts, jeans, tops, jackets, skirts and dresses. The collection had a sexy punk feel with cutup jeans, rocker jackets, tight dresses, and tulle style dresses.

Cacharel designed by Mark Eley and Wakakao Kishimoto made it's first catwalk appearance at Paris's spring 2009 fashion week. The eighty-one piece collection truly felt like spring time with casual light fabrics, floral patterns and bright colors. Although the collection was retro inspired it had very young and youthful feel.

Runway Report: Milan Fashion Week's Spring 2009 RTW Collections

Milan Fashion week offered a different outlook on modern fashion. The collections I admired offered femininity and sophistication. Here is a peek at some of my favorite looks.

The Moschino Spring 2009 collection showed an illustrious range of colors from bright pinks and purples, subtle metallic's, to the standard black and white pieces. The collection mixed a variety of fabrics including satins and chiffon's to form feminine silhouettes. The show had an edgy 60's vibe with the oversized bows, bouffants, and cat eye sunglasses.

The Salvatore Ferragamo collection showed that clothing does not have to be form fitting to be feminine and sexy. The entire collection offered a slouchy relaxed fit, yet it was well tailored and not overflowing with excess fabric.

Gianfranco Ferré offered a more artistic design to fashion. I love the abstract silhouettes of the pieces.

Bottega Veneta’s collection was classic and sophisticated with everyday wearable pieces. There were several belted 40’s style dresses. The color scheme seemed a bit pre fall with shades of burnt orange, brown and mustard yellow. Overall I thought the collection was quite stylish and chic.

My favorite casual wear for men is preppy wear with a slight urban twist. Of course I loved Russel Simmons Argyle Couture collection. It is ideal for the urban sophisticated brother. The clothing lines target is the successful man over the age of 25. Simmons states, " I have always intended to design sophisticated men's wear for the urban graduate." He has teamed up with GQ magazine for the spring 2008 ad campaign which will run for six months in several publications and the Internet.

Every fall and winter season there is a new color that is reported to be the new “black” and every season these colors turn out to be a fad. Black is a color that is really irreplaceable. It is a color that is stylish, timeless, chic and thinning. Black began its color reign in the fashion houses of Paris and London, it was directed toward the wealthy and fashion elite. During the post war periods Chanel revolutionized the fashion industry with the “LBD” (Little Black Dress). In the 1950’s Dior’s black afternoon dress and jacket became popular. It did not take long for the “LBD” to rise in popularity and become a staple at any fashion event. Black has become “the uniform” for those in the fashion industry.

I love to wear black. It is the ultimate sexy color; it can be classy yet seductive. It is the color that offers the most versatility and can be paired with almost anything. Basic black pieces are necessities in every fashionistas wardrobe.

Florals are usually only a spring pattern; I was excited when designers continued florals into their fall 2008 collections. The best thing about the fall florals are the colors, they consist of darker and richer shades of purples, reds, greens, browns and various other colors. This is a trend that can be worn for day or evening. Now that fall lines are in department stores I was interested to see the more affordable fall floral designs. Here is what I found.

I love Ne-yo's video Miss Independent Woman, there are some cute ensembles in the video. I like Gabrielle Union's look it is simple yet stylish. The dress is a classic sophisticated black dress. It can be dressed up for evening or paired with a blazer or blouse for work.

The shoes are fab. They appear to be a studded gladiator style sandal. I searched but I could not find those exact shoes, I did however find some of that similar style.

I love Tracey Reese’s spring 2009 RTW collection so much I had trouble narrowing my favorites down to a select few. I always seem to favor her spring collections over her fall collections. I love the colors and silhouettes in her spring collection. She mixes very flattering feminine shapes and patterns. Her collection includes a lot of flowing dresses; she has pieces that can be flattering to many different shapes and size.

I must say I don't get what the big deal is over Lauren Conrad. I like her on the Hills but I don't understand what makes her such a fashionista. Her style is plain. She always looks the same. I am so tired of seeing her in those jersey dresses. I can appreciate and compliment good style but I just don't see it with her. Sometimes I see her and I think she looks cute but she never wows me. Is it just me? Let me know what you think about LC?

My favorite LC looks they are cute but I don't think they should be as good as it gets for someone that gets so much press for their style.

The CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America) hosted the annual fashion awards last night to honor the outstanding contributions made to American fashion in all areas of the industry and related arts. "Awards were given for design excellence in womenswear, menswear and accessories as well as extraordinary accomplishments in journalism, creative vision and lifetime achievement. journalism, creative vision and lifetime achievement." Although these awards are a celebration of the greats in the fashion industry I was not at all impressed by the fashion at last night's festivities. It was a struggle finding a few favorite ensembles.

The Style Lookout: Tracy Reese

Today I am profiling Ms. Tracy Reese one of the fashion industry's most successful African American women. She is a graduate of Parsons School of Design. After she graduated in 1984, she received an apprenticeship from French designer Martine Sitbon. After an unsuccessful try at starting and maintaining her own line, she landed a job at Perry Ellis as design director for women's Portfolio. She later moved to a new label Magaschoni. After reaching a 4 million, she got her own label "Tracy Reese for Magaschoni." A few years later, she struck a deal with the Limited for her own line " Tracy Reese Meridian" a contemporary sportswear line. By 2002, Reese had opened a corporate showroom and her line, which had grown to include resort and swimwear, was featured during New York fashion week. Reese's looks have been called " ultra feminine and vintage inspired."

I am absolutely in love with Tracy Reese's Spring 2008 RTW collection. I tried to pick a few of my favorite pieces which was almost the entire collection.

The Style Lookout:The Last Of An Era,Yves Saint Laurent

In honor of fashion icon Yves Saint Laurent, I wanted to do a tribute. According to CNN he died last night at age 71. He was the last of an era that included Christian Dior and Coco Chanel. He practically took over Paris fashion in the 1960's and 70's. He was born in Oran, Algeria on August 1, 1938. In 1954, he began working for Dior and in 1961 he left Dior to open his own couture house. He was popular for his "masculine yet elegant suits for women, tight pants, the trapeze dress, smocks, thigh-high boots and tuxedo jackets. Saint Laurent often used ethnic themes in his designs, as well as bright colors contrasted with black." In 1999, he sold the rights YSL to Gucci for 70 million and in 2002 he retired as a result of failing health. I know that his legacy will continue to carry on.

Sex and the City

Last night I stepped out for a night on the town to watch Sex and The City and it was just as fabulous as I imagined! I won't tell the details for those that haven't seen it. I loved the underlying theme of the movie that there usually are no fairytale endings in life. I was a little disappointed with the ending but that may have been because I did not want all the "fabulousness" to end. I was so wrapped up in the culture that has become Sex and the City. The theatre was filled with girl groups all dressed up for a night on the town with Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte, and Samantha.

Gabrielle Union unveiled exclusive t-shirts designed by celebs for American Eagle Outfitters and "Declare Yourself". The shirts are to encourage voting and for each shirt purchased AE will donate $5 to "Declare Yourself". The shirt is $15.50 and will be available on ae.com until June 24th.

Tyra Banks graces the cover of New York magazine on stands this Sunday. The cover compares Banks to media moguls Oprah Winfrey and Martha Stewart. " Banks explains that her ultimate goal is, 'like her hero Martha Stewart...for her name to immediately suggest a distinct point of view'." I think it is great that New York magazine deemed her worthy enough to compare her to such icons.

My fav looks from the Sex and the City movie premiere. Jennifer Hudson has come a long way in terms of fashion. I thought she looked fab in these figure flattering dresses. Michelle also looked stunning, her purple dress complimented her skin tone perfectly.

Designer Zac Polsen showed some of his clothing on BET's Rip the Runway. Also BET aired Fashion Blackout where BET news takes an inside look at the fashion industry and the lack of black models on the runways and in ad campaigns. If you missed it check your local listings for the reairing.

Racism in Fashion

Over the past few months, many black models have been speaking out about the lack of color on the runways. I ran across an article on Models Blog where Gaye McDonald spoke about racism in the industry. She states that Paris casting agents "drop black girls like they’re hot.” McDonald and Mary Ping proclaim "Paris is the worst place to go for castings. Even though you can have a strong walk and look they will never chose you because they don’t like black girls. It makes you feel very uncomfortable and you begin to question yourself as to say ‘what’s wrong with me?" 'McDonald was one of the few black models that walked the catwalk during fashion weeks in New York, London, and Paris. McDonald states "The world is not white, so why should catwalks only feature white models?” She added: “I’m often the only black girl when I go to castings, which is horrible because everyone looks at you as if you are so different. But I have learned to make my experience empower me."

In this article many of the casting agents stated that it is hard finding work for black models. Carole White the co founder of Premier Model Management which supplies models for top fashion brands, magazines and designers says “Sadly we are in the business where you stock your shelves with what sells, black models don’t sell. People don’t tend to talk about it, but black models have to be so beautiful and perfect because we can’t have a lot of diversity with black models.”She added: “It’s harder work for the agency because there’s not so much on offer. White models can have more diversity.” The co founder of Acclaim Models Mary Schultz blames the organizers of model castings she says that when preparing for castings for this years fashion week in London they were repeatedly told by the designers that they were not interested in black or Asian models. She stated "I have been told outright by a designer, ‘please do not send me any black models as they do not suit my clothes’. I have also been told that black models do not know how to carry themselves in a high fashion manner, which is utter rubbish." Schultz has signed Jasmia Robinson and Sarah Butler from Britain's Next Top Model. Unfortunately, both girls have experienced racism. Robinson is often told that her features are to "afro" (meaning African) and has even been told by a very famous designer that she looks like a monkey. According to Make Fetch Happen Iman suggested that black models go "Norma Rae on their asses and form a union. I can only say that one of the reasons is that models have never had unions, so there is no one to say, 'This isn't right.'"

FAB Swimsuits

Summer is is around the corner which means allot of people are planning exotic vacations. There are also allot of holidays approaching and people will be heading to the beach. Oddly enough I am a Floridian that doesn't really go to the beach, therefore I rarely purchase a swimsuit. This summer I wanted to look for a fashionable swimsuit that I can wear to the beach if I decide to go or that I can wear relaxing by the pool. As always I'm on the search for a complete look so just a cute swimsuit wont be enough for me. I need a look complete with a few accessories. I love classics and my sense of style reflects that. My favorite swimsuits are the ones that reflect the old pinup girl style. I put together a few looks that I thought were fab and found a few fashionable swimsuits. Enjoy the warm weather!

Stephen Burrows

I started this blog to educate myself and others about the African American movers and shakers in the high fashion industry. I do not want this blog to become post after post of bios. On Tuesdays I will feature a bio on a African American in the industry. It will be Fierce Tuesdays! As always Stay Fierce! Stay Black!

Stephen Burrows is one of the first " big name" African American fashion designers. Burrows graduated from FIT in 1966. He made a name for himself in the 70's and 80's designing for the club crowds. He was " known for his signature “lettuce hems” and sexy, flowing chiffons, Burrows notably exaggerated stitching instead of hiding it, and often used bright colors like red for the thread." His clothes sold so well at O, an NYC gallery boutique that Henri Bendel's created an atelier " Stephen Burrows World" in their stores basement. After the store was sold in the early eighties Burrows began to fade away. For almost twenty years, Burrows designed for the theater and a few couture clients. In 2002, he made fashion history with a major comeback, with a new Bendel's boutique and soon fashion weeks followed. He also has a version of his clothing on the Home Shopping Network!

Trend Watch: Maxi Dresses

As I stated before I am excited about the Sex in the City movie. One of my friends is planning a girls night out with dinner, cocktails, and off to the movies. I really want a maxi dress. You can wear them casual for the day with flats and transform them into something glam for the night. I was thinking of maybe getting one for our girl's night out. We are going to the movies so I want something simple, cute, comfortable but still chic. I always like to shop online first so I can get an idea of what I want and what stores I need to go to. My favorite is this bebe ombre maxi dress. I absolutely love it! Most importantly I love that it gives enough room for the well endowed.

Media Mogul Tyra Banks's new reality show "Stylista" will debut this fall on the CW network on Wednesdays at night's 9/8c. The show will be a twist of "The Devil Wears Prada" meets reality TV. There will be eleven "fashion enthusiast" competing for a paid editorial job at Elle magazine, a paid lease on an FAB Manhattan apartment and an H&M clothing stipend all valued at a $100,000. They will be working as assistants to Anne Slowey, Elle's Fashion news director. Each week the contestants will carry out a fashion editorial assignment, assistant task, at the end of the episode one contestant will be fired, and the last one remaining will be the winner. This show sounds exciting and I really want to be on it! I know I will be tuning in!

The Power, Influence and Prominence known as André Leon Talley

André Leon Talley is undoubtedly most influential African American in the fashion industry. He is the editor-at-large of Vogue magazine the American edition. He is most known for his flamboyance and custom designed tailor made over the top ensembles. André uses his prominence to evoke change, he has never hesitated to chastise designers about the lack of colored models on the runways. He stated in an interview "sometimes when I sit and watch a fashion show I get totally wrapped up in what is in front of me, in the fantasy of it and what it might mean to the person who will be wearing the clothes. Then the show's over, and I realize there has not been one person of color on the runway!" He has also endorsed several African American designers throughout the duration of his extensive career.

André's climb to the top has not been an easy one. His journey began at a very humble beginning in North Carolina, the grandson of a sharecropper and the son of a taxi driver. André was raised by his grandmother, whom was a tremendous influence on his life. He gravitated towards fashion in his early teens after picking up a copy of Vogue at this local library. He says " Vogue was my hobby, and no one in my family ever had a copy of the magazine in the house until I did." André credits Vogue and his grandmother and her world especially Sundays at church for his fashion sense. He says, " You saw beautiful images of women, beautiful church hats and gloves. These were not people of great means and wealth, but they had the most wonderful style--especially on Sundays" André claims his eccentric style began in high school but he also tried to fit in to avoid ridicule. André admits "when you're a teenager from a small town and you are different, you are victimized by people's criticism and the way they look at you, that was a problem in high school, so I tried to conform a bit; but mostly I just stayed to myself."

André attended Brown University and became friends with some of the creative students at Rhode Island School of Design. After earning his masters in French Studies, he moved to New, York. André began to hangout heavy on the fashion/art scene. At age 28, he became a reporter at Women Wear Daily. In 1983, he landed a job at Vogue as fashion news reporter and five years later promoted to its creative director. In 1995, André left Vogue to become fashion editor for W in Paris and later became the bureau chief in the city. In 1998, he returned to Vogue as at editor-at-large. He has a monthly feature "Life with André". " In 2003, Talley was honored with the Eugenia Sheppard Award for outstanding fashion journalism from the Council of Fashion Designers of America. "Personally, I think they could've given me this award earlier in my career," Talley admitted in the Interview chat with Prada. "But if you say that, then people say, 'Oh, he carries a chip on his shoulder.' But as a black person, you are aware of your position if you're the only black person in the front row of a fashion show for so long."

I just recently got into colored nail polish. Every time I went to get my nails and toes done I would always get a french manicure and pedicure. I had a friend that would paint her nails according to what she was wearing and we could not go out until she had freshly painted her nails. One day I decided to try something different and I got my nails and toes painted hot pink. After that I fell in love with colored nail polish and I like to try all the new bright colors. Your nails just like everything else can be an outward expression of who you are. The colors can change according to your mood, ensemble, or the weather.

Every girl has been in a situation where you are in a hurry but your nail polished has chipped or you just need to repaint. It is the worst trying to paint your nails in the car because it is bumpy and you do not want the polish to spill or get clumpy on your nails. I have a shoe fetish. I absolutely love high heels specifically pumps. Every spring I am on the search for the perfect printed heel. I love a shoe that makes a statement. The kind of a shoe where you can put on a pair of jeans and tank top and still be standout. I love Aldo shoes and every spring they release a to die for printed heel. I bought a jungle print pump a few springs ago from Aldo and they are what began my obsession.

Beauty Watch: Avant-Garde of Cosmetics

Pat McGrath the "it" makeup artist of the fashion industry. She has created avant-garde makeup looks for the couture shows of several designers including Dolce & Gabbana, Prada, Versace, John Galliano, Giorgio Armani, Valentino and countess others. She is now the Creative Design Director of Procter and Gamble. She is in charge of Max Factor, Cover Girl cosmetics and several other brands.

Pat was raised in Northampton, England and is of Jamaican decent. She credits her mother Jean, for her love of fashion and makeup. She says her mother was infatuated with fashion and they spent the most of their time in vintage fashion shops and hours looking for makeup that would show up on black skin. Pat became obsessed with makeup and was making her own face creams at a very young age.

Pats first big break came when she got a job doing the makeup for Karen Wheeler a singer for Soul II Soul. Then she began doing the makeup for all the musicians in Britain, she had bookings with all the big record companies. As a result, she was able to do some major networking and landed some editorial jobs. She reportedly travels with up to fifteen, seventy-five pound duffle bags of cosmetics and tools.

Pat who has no formal training in cosmetics uses that as her advantage. She says she broke every rule because she was never trained on them. She developed skill through practice, practice and practice. When preparing for a shoot Pat says she does all the research then she throws it all away. She tries to approach everything from a new angle.

MET Costume Institute Gala

The New York's Metropolitan Museum Art transformed into a galaxy of glamour with Hollywood superstars and fashion for the Costume Institutes gala opening for the 2008exhibition of "Superheroes; Fashion and Fantasy". The honorary chairman for this years event was Italian designer Giorgio Armani and the co-chairs were actors George Clooney, Julia Roberts, and Vogue's editor and chief Anna Wintour.

"Inside the museum, 30ft statues of Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman, contemporary versions of the ancient superheroes sculpted in marble in the museum’s Graeco-Roman gallery. Beauty Trend Watch: It's Just Hair!

Spring is usually the hair cut season. The warm weather inspires women to look for a cooler and refreshing hairstyle. Until recently cutting, my hair had never been an option for me. Towards the end of last year, I started to get this itch to cut my hair but I lacked the courage. I am a fashionable person and I wanted my hair to complement my style. Some people may think why all of this over a simple hair cut, its just hair. I have always had long hair for an African American woman and the shortest I had cut it was to my shoulders, so getting a hair cut was a very big deal for me. After months and months of going back forth, I decided to do it for graduation. I am starting a new life and why not have a new hair cut to go with it. With five friends by the phone I did the unthinkable I cut my tresses in to what has become known as the" Pob", an asymmetrical bob. I love it I think it is the best thing I could have done for myself. I have received nothing but complements and I absolutely love it. For all those women out there afraid of the change, go for it. It is just hair!

Posh's bob known as the "Pob" is the haircut I requested. I love it and I thought it would be the best style for my face. Here is a picture of how it came out!

I also really love Katie Holmes haircut. This look really transformed her girl next door image.

Rihanna's hair cut is fierce! It is a little shorter than I am willing to go but if you have the courage and the face... GO For It!

Rihanna has come a long way from when she stepped on the scene with her "Pon De Replay" single. At the time, Rihanna appeared to be just another exotic beauty that would come and go. Fast forward to Rihanna's third album she came back with a hot new look and single. Rumors of being involved with mentor Jay-Z did not hurt her popularity. Neither does her relationship with R&B hearthrob Chris Brown. Rihanna cut her tresses into a jet-black asymmetrical bob and changed her image from pretty island girl to fierce fashionista. Now the cameras cannot get enough of her.

I absolutely love menswear with a feminine twist. I love ties, suspenders, collared shirts and well-tailored pants. Katherine Hepburn ,the fashionista that made menswear sexy and fashionable for women is one of my favorite fashion icons. She set a trend that designers have emulated for decades. Ralph Lauren's Spring 2008 Ready to wear collection was filled with many to die for menswear inspired ensembles. Menswear is not a trend that will come ago but a style that will be revamped and continue on for decades to come. Here are a few looks that I found and loved.

All Black Vogue Italia

According to Fashionologie.com photographer Steven Meisel has shot an entire issue of only black models for Vogue Italia. Meisel is hoping that this will encourage other publications to add some diversity to their pages. Reportedly, Jordan Dunn will be a participant. This has been the year for Jourdan she was also the first black model to walk the catwalk for Prada, since Naomi Campbell in 1997. This issue will definitely be Fierce Blackness!

Kimora's Life in the Fab Lane Season two debuted last Sunday the 20th. I love the show and I was looking forward to its return for my weekly dose of Fabulosity, Kimora style. Kimora announced that her ex husband Russell Simmons was stepping down and she is stepping up at as the director of all of Phat fashions. Kimora will be now bringing her unique style to men's Phat Farm line. This shall be an interesting transition because Phat Farm used to be one of the leading urban wear brands but has suffered from major decreases in sales. On the season premiere Kimora had began to revamp the Phat Farm brand image by redesigning the tags and bringing in new designers for the clothing. Kimora's Baby Phat brand is a popular brand in the urban market and maybe she can bring that same success back to Phat Farm. The show airs Sundays at 8/7c on the Style network.

4. I am dependent upon my hair stylist, eyebrow threading lady, and the people at the nail shop because I am not a do it yourself kind of girl when it comes down to those things.
5. I really want to cut my hair but I have never had hair shorter than my shoulders so I am afraid of the change.
6. I cannot eat bread that is no toasted.

Preppy Wear

My favorite casual style of clothing is preppy wear. Upon the rare occasion, that you may catch me not wearing heels I will more than likely be in a polo shirt (Lacoste or Ralph Lauren), pearls, and a pair of sperry top siders. I absolutely love sperry top siders they are epitome of classic southern style. I have them in several colors from hot pink to the classic chocolate brown. I am very traditional and classic when I put on a polo. Here is where you can get the look.

The preppy look is also my favorite casual look for guys. As I stated early I am not a big of fan of urban wear but I do like a man in preppy attire with a slight urban twist. Kanye West does look very well.

The Style Lookout: Fashion "Sex And the City" Style

I am so excited for Sex and the City the movie. It opens in theaters May 30 and I cannot wait to go see it. I just recently started watching the old episodes of Sex and the City the sitcom. I know I am late, but I was only eleven when the show premiered in 1998, but I can still remember the phenomenon that was Sex in the City. It ran for a total of six seasons and in that short time it became more than a show but a culture. There is Sex and the City couture, apparel, games, glassware, home and office and furnishings and the list goes on. Sex and The City has been noted as one of the most important sitcoms for the fashion industry thanks in large part to fashion stylist Patricia Field. The sitcom transformed main character Carrie Bradshaw and real life actress Sarah Jessica Parker into fashion icons. I cannot wait to see what fashions the movie has in store for us.

The Style Lookout: Who Is That Girl?

She is none other than Genevieve Jones. Ms. Jones arrived in New York in 1999, as what "It" people in the fashion industry would refer to as a "nobody". She definitely did not remain that way fast forward March 2006 and Genevieve Jones was being named "Girl of the Moment" by Vogue magazine. This had everyone shouting, " Who's that Girl?" No one could figure out who she was or what she did. She moved to New York for college but it seems she spent the majority of her time at parties. Genevieve's "exotic looks", impeccable fashion sense, personality, and being at the right places at the right time made people take notice. Reportedly, Genevieve, saw Russian supermodel Irina Pantaeve at a party, introduced herself and a friendship was born. The two began attending the best clubs and parties. Genevieve's next big break was meeting then aspiring designer Zac Polsen on the street. He was taken back by her looks and when he started his fashion business, he asked her to model for him. This only increased her popularity and led to a major increase in party invites, intro to Fendi, a photo-op in W magazine, and not to mention the countless pictures that were all over the Internet.

Genevieve is reportedly sought after by "fashion industry publicist to go to their parties and wear their things." This works in the favor of Genevieve and the publicists. It works more so in the favor of the Houses because although Ms. Jones is getting the clothes free. She is dressing herself and adding her own unique style. Designer Michael Kors states " this is much more credible then when a stylist dresses a celebrity." To this day, no one is exactly sure what it is that Genevieve Jones does for a living but it is this mystery that keeps people intrigued, questioning, and watching.

My love letter to fashion

I wrote this love letter as an intro to my other blog Fashion Devotee. I decided to repost it because I beleive that it symbolizes my love and my passion for fashion.

" I am in love with fashion. It is my life. It makes my happiest moments complete. It is loyal and although it changes with the times, it stays true to who it is and it keeps me intrigued, keeps me dreaming, and for these reasons I will be forever devoted to fashion. I fell in love with fashion as a kid. It stole my heart, locked it and threw away the key. I can remember being the little girl that did not play at recess in elementary school because she did not want to get her new dress dirty. I was also the misunderstood girl in high school that wore pumps to class everyday that and had a style that was completely her own.

I am a fashionista and I don’t take it lightly. Being a fashionista consists of so much more than being able to coordinate a matching ensemble. Anybody that is not color blind or a complete fashion reject can do that. Being a fashionista is a lifestyle, everything about your appearance is impeccably coordinated. A fashionista never misses a beat. The hair, makeup, clothing, and accessories all come together to form a complete look. A true fashionista is not a follower of trends but it is a trendsetter. As a fashionista, I read several fashion magazines but I am not a walking replica of those pages. I do not tear out clippings of rihanna in the newest and hottest trends and go to the mall and try to imitate her look. I am aware of trends and what is current but I have a style that is unique and solely my own. I was born an original so I will not live or die as a copy. I am in love with fashion it is my passion, my heart’s joy……my soul mate. This is my love letter to fashion "
